The Association of Swedish Whisky Clubs

During 2003 ten established whisky clubs, from Ystad in Southern Sweden to Borlänge in the middle, formed a joint organisation; The Association of Swedish Whisky Clubs (ASWC). The Association is a non-profit union of whisky clubs with the aim to test and enjoy whisky during organised tasting sessions. ASWC also aims, by cooperation, to create an additional value to its members, and to encourage the interest for whisky in Sweden.

The first, and so far the biggest, common activity is the Swedish Whisky Clubs Convention, which is taking place in connection with the Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival in Nacka Strand, Stockholm. The first Convention was held in 2002. At the seventh Convention, 2008, more than 200 members from more than 40 whisky clubs participated. • Working routines for the Board is now well established.
• The first tour by a Scottish representative took place during 2004 with a positive result. Around 4 tours are arranged every year.. A tasting leader from a distillery has been a very positive experience for many whisky clubs.
• The first single cask bottling exclusively for members of ASWC took place 2004. Since then 1-3 casks have been bottled each year.
• Our own web site has been in operation since 2004.  It’s divided into two separate sections; an open section for all visitors and a membership only section  (www.svenskawhisky.se).  
• The ASWC have today 83 member clubs, with a total of 3928 members.  (080903) The number of clubs is expected to increase further.
• During 2005 Whisky Convention the honour “Whisky bar/pub of the Year” has been launched. 2008 the honour was given to Bishops Arms in Örebro
